Basic Life Support (BLS)

Basic Life Support, or BLS, generally refers to the type of care that first-responders, healthcare providers, and public safety professionals provide to anyone who is experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or an obstructed airway. It requires knowledge and skills necessary for CPR, AED, and relieving obstructions.

First Aid

First Aid skills are designed to help non-medical professionals provide assistance in times of crisis and to cover the best practices for a wide range of conditions. A few examples first aid skills or practices include burns, choking, heart attacks, diabetic emergencies, strokes, seizures, or head/neck injuries.

AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's an advanced, yet simple-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

CPR is a life-saving technique that can help you provide assistance when someone is faced with a cardiac or breathing emergency. These techniques often consist of body positioning, hand placement, and timing so that you can effectively help an adult in need.

Bloodborne Pathogens

Following standard precautions helps prevent the spread of bloodborne pathogens and other diseases whenever there is a risk of exposure to blood or other body fluids. Standard precautions include maintaining personal hygiene and using personal protective equipment (PPE), engineering controls, work practice controls, and proper equipment cleaning and spill cleanup procedures.
